he is risen!

When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The women were shocked, but the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body. Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died.”
Matthew 16:5-7

blessings on your Easter!

from the Hentzens!

we are now feeling like spring really might be on the way to southeastern idaho... i'm sure ryan's impressive haiku helped the weather to turn around, because just a week ago you couldn't see any of our grass for all of the snow in the yard!

not that you can tell, but dave's hockey season is now over... big, sad, sigh! his team came in 3rd in the league, so it's still pretty respectable. swimming is wrapping up--next meet is in boise in april, soccer starts as soon as the snow melts, and "skills day" for little league is just around the corner!

life is good!

boys...

last night was the actual birthday dinner with tacos (i told you that's our favorite!), chocolate cake, chocolate frost and mint chip ice cream... and most importantly the presents.

have you ever had a conversation with someone and as much as you pled your point, it was missed by the other person? just for example:

dave: jackson's 10... what do you think of getting him a gun?

jen: {silence}

dave: a bb gun...

jen: {silence}

dave: he can take hunter's safety this year...

jen: {silence}

dave: blah, blah, gun, blah, blah, shooting, blah, blah some rules...

jen: {screeching} WHAT ARE YOU TAKING ABOUT?

at this point i'm sure he's lost his {add any expletive you like. but if you know me, you know which i would have used} mind...

dave: it's better to have the boys educated on gun safetly now, and to have a healthy respect... blah, blah...

it's not that i'm not listening, but i think he's forgotten about being in lock-down on april 20, 1999 at lutheran hospital in colorado. we were there because jacks seized up, and being 6 months pregnant with Ryan, i didn't know what else to do other than take him to the ER. little did i know that at the same time, two boys--who were evidently also skilled with weaponry--went to school to go to war against society because they felt the need to take action towards those they hated... okay, i'm totally going off the deep end here, aren't i?

but then he said the magic words...
dave: look at it this way, he and i will be outside, doing stuff together... and it'll get his mind off of a Wii...

as a friend said: it's idaho, and our boys go huntin'

well, happy hunting, jacks!

remember when...

have you ever had fish and chips at the crane river brew pub in lincoln, nebraska? i did, once...

on march 12, 1998... it didn't sit well with me, so i left work early to take a nap. after the best sleep i had had in about 5 months, i woke with a start... what was that? my water broke? are you crazy... i was only 36 weeks! this baby needs to cook for at least another couple weeks!

so i did what anyone in denial would do... i called my mom--in colorado. she's telling me that i really should be talking to my DOCTOR, and not her. in the end, dave speeds us over to the hospital, and at 4:16am on march 13... Jackson Henry Hentzen was born!

since he was early, he had all kinds of tubes and machines tied on him. he spent a little more than a week in the NICU. but he came home to us, and i think we held on to him for at least the next 14 months, when ryan came along!

when i took the majority of jackson's pictures, i didn't have the dig-cam. so sorry about the bad reproduction and scanned scrapbook pages... i've got to get caught up with the technology!

so, in about 6 hours, our boy will be 10... where did the time go? i don't know about the time, but i do know this, God has truly blessed us with a wonderful child who makes us laugh, who likes to challenge us, and who we love dearly.

Happy Birthday, Jack-inator!

some things never change...

when he was three, we had a train party for jackson.

he still has the wooden tracks that all of his family and friends wrote birthday wishes on, and he played with them regularly right up until this last Christmas... that's when Santa brought his Lego train set that is powered, lights up and makes noise! very cool... and it's been pretty sweet to see our avid train boy reappear.

his Nana & Papa sent him more track that came with a switch for his birthday... which he has already opened. i love to open presents, so it's hard for me to make him wait!

and today--he stayed home from school--he was playing with it for most of the day. now you're asking me, "why did jackson stay home from school today?"

well, he had a fever this morning. i can't be sure of the cause of the fever... could he have a little cold? maybe. could he be fighting an infection from this:

saturday night we were at our friends' house--casa smith-ibagian--and jacks comes screaming up the stairs that he's been injured. no other information than "i fell off the coffee table." we cleaned it up, and hopefully we learned a lesson. today, new information has surfaced: he was playing rock band and dancing on the table when he fell off the said table. and sadly, sadly, sadly... he comes from a long line of table dancers. right, Nana?!

dear jackson, i'm sorry that when you God made you, He gave you some of these weird idiosyncrasies from me and your Nana, but they will make you a very interesting person!
love, Mom

i'm a man...

this again?!
yes, evidently being a man, to ryan, is being able to sweat (like a man) and being able to handle sweating... you know, it runs in your eyes, and such. he was graciously explaining, in great detail, this to his friend... gabrielle. eeww, gross!!

but today, jackson is the man...

we celebrated jackson's birthday today with some of his friends at the hottest birthday party spot of idaho falls... the idaho falls gymnastic center. oooh... aahh...

it is a pretty great place for a party because i called on wednesday, did the whole down-payment, waltzed in today at 2:30 and the party started! the kids had the run of the joint... trapolines, bouncy floors, a huge pit of foam to fall into from ropes, or bars or the standard gymnastic center what-have-yous...

s0, i started thinking about this the last few days... why do we kill ourselves with elaborate birthday parties?? why do we--i say "we" and maybe it's just me that used to put forth a bunch of time and effort to plan parties with handmade invitations, party favors and thanks yous, to make train and dinosaur cakes with lava punch 3 year olds who will never remember the party, let alone the cake!?

i came to a conclusion: was it all for me? if it was, then GOOD, i'm glad they don't remember because i was probably a complete psycho prior to these parties! i can't imagine that i did do it because i adored my children so, so, so much? because i don't adore my boys any less today, and i was totally fine with leaving a check as i left a party place that i didn't have to clean!!

and most importantly--sweaty, fun was had by all!

stay posted, as we have a retrospective on our boy, as he's on the

cusp of going into the land of double-digits!

super fast!

we did so well at the swim meet!

(ryan cheering jackson on!)

(ryan waiting... the only boy with a swim cap!)

the boys shaved time off of their previous times, and {most importantly} they had fun and thanked us for letting them go--as if! we were so happy that they didn't fight us on going... they have been a little resistant to the meets, but something clicked this time.
so, as soon as i figure out how to download video, i'll add that too!
